Quillin: Beating Cancer with Nutrition, book with CD

"Beating Cancer With Nutrition" is probably the best book out there on treating cancer holistically, as it compiles information from a wide range of sources, and advocates using a variety of approaches to treat (and beat) cancer. These include orthodox therapies (chemo, etc) for reduction of tumor burden, nutrition, hyperthermia, diet, spirituality, psychology, and more. Related to diet, Quillan explains the effect of sugar consumption on cancer growth. Quillan cites studies to back up what he says, and his thorough approach to cancer treatment ensures that those with cancer will have virtually every weapon available to beat cancer, and treat its devastating effects, including cachexia.

As a nice bonus, Quillan's wife Noreen has compiled some healthy recipes that are pretty easy to prepare. The book also comes with a 72-minute audio CD that essentially covers the major points raised in the book. At the end of the book, Quillan lists doctors who use nutrition in their practices, sorted by zip code. He also lists other resources for cancer patients, and provides charts with good and bad foods.

Beating cancer with nutrition is giving the reader all the background information about cancer and how to best fight it. In addition, Dr. Quillin outlines his approach for nutritional therapy. The reader can choose to buy the supplements separately or can buy Immunopower, a combination of powder (for shakes) and pills. Yes, Immunopower has been developed by Dr. Quillin and is quiet expensive. But buying separately is even more expensive. Unfortunately, cancer is not an easy or cheap disease to fight. Dr. Quillin talks a lot about Immunopower in his book, but only because it truly is the best thing out there to fight cancer.

This completely revised edition of a 1994 title offers up-to-date information about the human body's own "host defense mechanisms" in the war on cancer, providing a multidisciplinary approach to treatment based on scientific studies and clinical experience.

Quillin, a medical professional who has published extensively, has conducted nutrition studies with hundreds of patients in formal clinical settings. Quillan provides a truly holistic approach to cancer treatment that promotes spiritual, physical, and emotional healing, while not rejecting the limited use of orthodox therapy. He discusses conventional therapies (chemotherapy, surgery), alternative therapies (macrobiotics, herbal and vitamin therapies), and related factors (psychosocial health, drugs, tobacco, immune dysfunctions).

Appendixes list treatment referral agencies, mail-order nutrition products, suggested readings, nutritionally oriented doctors in the United States and Canada, and recipes using foods known to slow tumor growth.

Written in an easy-to-read style, this work is informative, but some sections seem misplaced or redundant, and charts and graphs occasionally lack an identified source and are difficult to read. Still, this useful guide to authoritative alternatives in cancer treatment would be appreciated in public library or consumer health collections.

This book is very useful; technical information is written in a way that is easy for a "lay reader" to understand. Awesome book! Great research was done and references to other books to read was helpful, all the research was done for you. The information to be easy to digest, thorough in its value, and concise.
